How to get started
In the case Studenten Internet is included in your monthly rental, you can solely receive your login credentials through the landlord.
How can I connect with the network?
Not every building has wifi. Many buildings are equiupped with ethernet cabling to the rooms. So please first check the wall for a network outlet, if it's there, use it! If you can't find any ethernet wall outlet, open the available wireless connections on your pc/mac/notebook and check for available networks. When you're in the range of one of our hotspots you will see a network named STUDENTEN INTERNET HOTSPOT(xxx) or STUDENTENINTERNET(xxx) (where xxx is the hotspot nr) Mark this network and connect to it. Once connected, just open your browser and you will automatically be redirected to a loginpage where you can use your credentials to log in. When you're in a wired network, you should automatically land on the loginpage as soon as you open your browser. If you don't get to the loginpage, check the dhcp and proxy settings on your machine. You can download a pdf document describing the correct settings here
My browser announces a blocked pop-up when I perform a login
When you login to our hotspots a small logout window is automatically opened for you. This allows you to logout from the system whenever you quit surfing. If you don't logout manually, you will automatically be logged out after 60 minutes of inactivity. To see the pop-up, just allow your browser to open pop-up windows from https://hotspot.studenteninternet.be and https://users.studenteninternet.be
TIP!
If you would like to stay logged in while doing nothing on your computer, just open msn or something like it and you won't be logged out automatically!
It's annoying I have to type my password everytime I want to use the internet
Every modern browser has the possibillity to save your password. When you activate this, your loginname and password will automatically be filled in as soon as you start typing your login name. In Internet explorer you can activate this by hitting Tools in de menubar and choosing internet options. Open the content tab and hit the AutoComplete button. Mark everything over there. At your next login you will be asked to save your password.
I've lost my password!
If you have filled in your info on the user pages, you can easily recover your password here If you never filled in your info on the user pages, the only way to recover your password is through your landlord who can contact us for this.
Please be informed that we never supply user passwords by phone! Calling the helpdesk for this will not work.
I can't get any wireless connection
Is there a wireless nic available on your system? Check control panel, system, tab hardware, device settings, network interfaces. Check if the wireless interface is enabled? Many laptops have an external button or switch to enable/disable the wireless interface. Make sure it is turned on!
I get logged out almost every minute, without a particular reason!
On our systems we only allow one simultaneous login session. When on your location there is next to a wired network also wifi available, you should only use one or the other and not both enabled on the same time. When you enable both, and your notebook (automatically) connects to our system with both adapters, our system will detect this as 2 sessions and log you out. To avoid this scenario, when you use wifi, unplug the network cable. When you use wired, disable the wifi adapter in your notebook.
You will experience the same problem when you share your login credentials with someone else, so you better don't do this ;-)
Where can I check my used volume and time and the limits set for my account?
You can check all your account settings on the user pages
You can also find a link to these pages on our login page.
My prepaid account has expired, how can I renew it?
Prepaid accounts can not be renewed. Remaining credits on an expired prepaid account are lost. If you like to continue using our services, you need to buy a new account using the new account registration link you find on our hotspot loginpage.
I've reached my volumelimit, what can I do?
You can buy extra volume credits on the user pages
Once you've got volume credits on your account, you will be able to raise the volume above the limit you've reached. Raising your volume limit has also to be done on the user pages
Everything you need to know about 'volume credits'
These credits can be bought (buy volume credits) on the user pages. Credits will be added to your account as soon as we've received your payment. If you set extra volume on your personal user interface (user pages), you will automatically be charged the credits for the amount of volume you've set. Also, at the beginning of every new month, the necessary credits will be charged from you credit account. If you don't have enough credits at the beginning of the new month, your limit will automatically be set to standard volume or to the value you have enough credits for. You can always set your volume limit to a lower value as long as you didn't exceed your new-set-limit. Of course, the unused amount of credits will return to your credit account.
I bought credits, what happens next?
After you've completed the form, you will see the payment information on your screen. You will also receive an e-mail with this information. You transfer the amount to pay to our account and as soon as we receive your payment, the credits will be added to your account.
Attention! We never increase your limit ourself! So after you made the payment you should check the user pages regulary to check if your credits have been added already. Once added, you will be able to increase your monthly limit below the 'Additional volume' tab in the menu.
Can I lower my limit at the end of the month?
You can always lower your limit as long as you didn't reached the volumelimit you want to set. When you lower your limit you will be returned the equivalent of credits on your creditsaccount
I'd set 6GB last month, but only used 3GB, though credits were lowered for an amount of 6GB that month
This is normal, you already bought this amount of volume. You need to set your limit to a lower value before the end of the month to avoid this and get the unused credits back.
I have no antivirus software
You can download free antivirus software at http://antivirus.studenteninternet.be
Which smtp server should I use in my mailclient?
We use different backhaul providers. Most of the system redirect automatically to the correct smtp server. If this doesn't work for you, contact us via the contact form on our website and we will reply with the correct smtp server for your location.
Do I still use volume when I have shutdown my computer?
No, as soon as you have shutdown your computer, no volume will be charged anymore.
I still experience problems and I'm sure it's not related to my computer or it's settings
If you experience problems and want us to do an onsite intervention we can come to your studio to check what's wrong. Please keep in mind that if one of our technicians come over and the problem is related to your computer a fee will be charged. In order to become an onsite visit we request you to complete this form
